Previous Professional Experience
Ed followed an atypical path to the practice of law. He anchored newscasts on a prominent Detroit radio station while working his way through college. Radio opened opportunities to provide live reports from the floor of the 1980 Republican National Convention in Detroit; interview cultural, political, and business leaders; and serve as a reporter on automotive issues for a national news. A business career followed where he focused on product and marketing management responsibilities for manufacturing companies based in West Michigan, Chicago, and Nashville.
Wishing to combine his business and communications background with the legal world, Ed became licensed to practice law in 1992. He specializes in commercial litigation, insurance defense, and business issues confronting small- to mid-sized companies, as well as estate planning. His clients have included a Fortune 10 corporation; regional insurance companies; locally based businesses for which he advises on employment, contractual, liability, and transactional issues; and individuals.
Ed and his wife, Beth, have two adult children and reside in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a devout baseball fan, he is often seen at the ballpark watching the Detroit Tigers do battle on the diamond. He enjoys travel, reading, and volunteering. He is chair of his congregation's personnel committee, former chair of its stewardship committee, and former chair of the Ministry Task Force. He also served as the vice chairman of the City of Wyoming Planning Commission.
